In Her Honor, For His Glory

Today we honor Great-Grandmothers,
Grandmas, Grannies, Grandmams,
Nanas and Mamas everywhere;
Great-Grandmothers with shiny silver blue gray hair,
who talked about Jesus and taught us how to share.
Once my Great-Grandmother had
one piece of double mint gum,
just one

and while I thought it should be
just for me, she tore it in three, for us, myself and my brothers;
oh the lessons we learn from our Great-Grandmothers!
Today we honor our Grannies
who wore love on their sleeve,
from Alice to Zenobia, all the way
to the first Mother, Eve.
Just as soon as we could read,
Granny opened the big brown Bible
to the Fulfillment of our need.
She seemed to know just what to do-
“caste all your cares upon him for
he careth for you”;
1 Peter 5:7
was
like manna from heaven,
when the cupboards were empty,
we stood far from the peaceful shore,
ungratified, so unsatisfied and hungry for more.
Today we honor Mamas who brought us into
or rescued us from this cold, cold world;
who made us feel like that beloved little boy
or gracious, precious, girl;
who prayed for us,
when we got on the bus,
who taught us how to behave in the House of God,
didn’t spoil us or spare the rod;
who taught us about life,
didn’t fret over strife, for from
2 Timothy 3:15
we gleaned:
“and that from a child thou has known the scriptures,
which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through
faith which is in Christ Jesus”.
We love you Mama, Granny, Grandma, Nana;
we honor the legacy you left for all to see,
the Jesus I saw in you is also in me,
and that “makes it so easy-
so easy to love”!
In her honor, for His Glory,
that is all for this day’s story!
